Metropolis

Metropolis like to dismantle things

Some of the things they have enjoyed dismantling since the formation of the group in 1998 are the compositions of their saxophonist, Petter Frost Fadnes. If we can think of the compositions as small, cute, fluffy rodents, then Metropolis would be the mean-spirited, evil children armed with staple guns and gaffer tape. Watching Metropolis perform has been likened to watching a car crash, being unable to turn away, but finding you actually quite enjoy the experience.

Johnny Tomlinson – Piano Simon Kaylor – Tenor Saxophone Tommy Evans –Drums Simon Beddoe – Trumpet/Flugel Horn Nick Tyson – Guitar Seth Benett – Double Bass Bringing together some of the most innovative, exceptional & contemporary musicians in the North, If Destroyed Still True are led by the percussive genius of Tommy Evans & featuring Parliamentary Jazz Award winner Nick Tyson on guitar, fire & brimstone honker Simon Kaylor on sax, Si Beddoe blowing out the cobwebs on Trumpet & the expressive fingers of Johnny Tomlinson on the ivories. Whilst drawing upon influences from Avishai Cohen to Perfect Houseplants IDST have developed a more orchestral style whilst retaining a focus on improvisation & musical communication. This has resulted in a coming together of jazz & folk in an idiosyncratically English fashion - sweeping melodies, unusual harmonic progression & complex rhythm keeping. Music to keep the listener on their toes without alienating.
